Thanksgiving in the MTC

This weeks email from Michelle from yesterday’s P-day…

“Well, it’s been another amazing week here at the MTC. We had Thanksgiving on Thursday and that meant a big change of schedule. The best part of the day was a morning devotional by Jeffrey R. Holland and his family! How amazing is that, let’s be honest: if you’re choosing a favourite apostle…. He had his family all participate and there was an overwhelming feeling of love in that room. He told us that as of today, we’re all his adopted family.

I now have two investigators; Laurence and Frederic but it’s super weird because they’re both my teachers too (Soeur Dix and Brother Portwood). I’m learning so much and making a lot of mistakes at the same time but then that’s the purpose of the MTC. Make all the mistakes now so that I don’t make them when I’m in the field.

I’ve not long got back from the Temple and I’m on such a high. I had been worried about my own abilities to teach and do the right things here after a particularly bad lesson with Laurence yesterday but as I prayed I felt secure in the fact that if I put forth my best efforts, the Lord will make up for the rest.

I just can’t express how happy I am at the moment. Love you all.

Love from Soeur Hoar”

“The MTC is amazing…!”

Here is Michelle’s first email from the MTC.

If you wish to write to Michelle whilst she is in the MTC you can use DearElder.com, its completely free, and it gets to her the same day!

The MTC is amazing and I’m absolutely loving it. I’m doing so much in every day and I honestly can’t figure how I used to live my days. I wasted so much time! I know this will sound stupid but my expectations of the MTC are so far from reality. I thought I would be in lots of classes being taught a lot but instead I’m actually just being a missionary. We have an “investigator” called Philippe and soon we’ll be getting more and everything we do is focused on them. I am learning that in no way is this mission about me, it never was and I couldn’t be happier about it. Every day I experience the love of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and it just makes me love others so much! I’m filled with the spirit every day and I’m working so hard.

It’s not all hard work though, I love my companion. Sister Allred (from Cache Valley, Utah) and my district is brilliant. We have 8 in our district, me and my companion are the only sisters and we have some really funny characters. If I’m honest, sometimes it can be pretty hard to concentrate because we all get so distracted by each other. Becky [Hooker] is in a different district to me. We have about 7 districts in our zone.

I’ve found that my confidence with using french has rocketed because when I’m teaching Philippe I just have to. I had my first teach after just three days of being here so you just try your best. We’ve made a few funny mistakes like telling him he’s a daughter of God! I’m just grateful he’s not a real investigator and we get to make all our mistakes with him. Although not all the elders in our zone know that they’re members.

I love you all so much and want you to know that my testimony is growing loads even in such a short time. Love you tonnes and tonnes!

Love from Soeur Hoar

Arrived Safely

Michelle, Becky and Kevin have arrived safely in Utah. Michelle was allowed to call home for 5 minutes on Tuesday this week, to let her parents know that she had arrived safely. Whilst in Chicago for their layover (where the airline lost all their bags) they met a member of the Church, whose sons had also served in France, and he offered to buy them food. A few days later Michelle also sent a very brief email home to say she was having a great time and had already had many wonderful experiences in the MTC. It sounded like she is already having a great time.

When she has her first pday she’ll be able to write properly and we’ll hear more about her first week then.

Write to Sister Michelle Hoar

Michelle and Emily

The countdown to Michelle going on her Mission is closing in on D-Day. This weekend will be Michelle’s last at home before leaving for the MTC in Provo, Utah on Monday morning.

On Sunday Michelle will be speaking in Sacrament meeting at Telford Ward’s Wellington Chapel. After church she will be set apart by the Stake President at the chapel.

If you would like to write to Michelle then she will be at the MTC until mid-January and then she will be going to the Mission field in France. Her MTC address is below and on the right hand site of the blog, along with the address of the mission office.

If you write to Michelle and post the letter this weekend then she will have something to read on her first preparation day.
